Pelicans Here? Really?

 Day 18 -- August 16, 2021

Today's morning weather report:  48 degrees at 5a, and a predicted high of 71 with a possibility of rain.

It is time for provisions, so in late morning we drive into Angel Fire, which has the closest large grocery store.  There are some dark clouds, so we may get that rain.

Apparently just like in Canada, road repairs must be done in the summer months when there is no ice or snow.  There is a slight delay as traffic is directed to follow the pilot car onto the lane that has been repaired.  Over to the left we see the Angel Fire ski slope and think what fun it would be to ski here next winter.

Thinking of Joe and Pearl's cabin in the mountains nearby, I text her a photo of the wood carving of a bear holding the "Welcome to Lowes" sign and ask her to guess where we are.  She definitely knows, and tells me to enjoy the weather.  It is hot where she is.

We also locate the RV park where we had stayed several years ago when we visited them.

Well armed with provisions to last us a while, we head back to Angel Nest RV park to stock the refrigerator and pantry.  Our afternoon walk is back down Marina Drive to the boat ramp, where I make a startling discovery.  What I thought was a swan is actually a white pelican.  I didn't think they migrated through here, but comparing the beaks, it is definitely not a swan.

We also see that the docks have been lifted out of Eagle Nest Lake, because the level is too low to float them.  The park attendant tells us that water is being released at the dam for irrigation of the farms in the Springer NM area.
