Tomatoes and Cotton Growing at a Welcome Center???

 Days 15 - 16 -- August 10 and 11, 2019

An observation we made on the trip home is that the Crepe Myrtle trees are a deep red, unlike the ones we have at our country place in Livingston TX.  I couldn't resist this from our hotel room in Cookeville TN.

I applaud the hotel management for the smoke-free zone and encouraging people to QUIT.

Many of the things we find interesting enough to photograph are in rest areas and Welcome Centers.  At the Johnny Cash Rest Area we learn that we are on the Blue Star Memorial Highway, which is a tribute to the Armed Forces that have defended the United States of America.

In the afternoon we come to the Arkansas Welcome Center with its Arkansas, the Natural State, welcome mat, and a display of a bale of cotton grown in the fields of Arkansas.

And to our surprise, we see tomato plants growing in the garden in front of the building.

A delightful and most welcome sight is the Welcome to Texas sign as we enter the great state of Texas, and pass through Texarkana USA.

The Staybridge Suites in Longview TX is our home for the night, and a familiar Texas sight is the What-a-Burger restaurant in the distance.
