Enchanted, also with Eagles!

 Day 19 -- August 17, 2021

Yikes!  This is the coldest morning so far, at 45 very chilly degrees, and Herb turns on the diesel heater to warm the motor home to around 72 degrees.  The fog is so thick that looking out the windshield I can see the office acrss the courtyard, but the mountains are hidden.

By 8:30a the sun peeks through and burns away the fog.  It will be a great day!

In the afternoon I take my usual walk down Marina Drive and today I explore all the instructional signs at the Eagle Nest Lake State Park visitor center.   I am pleased to see that there is no fire danger at this time.

A legend tells us where we are in relation to the State Park, showing the Village of Eagle Nest and the walking paths that one could take to get to Eagle Nest.  Yep, Herb and I took one of those paths a few days ago, and lived to tell about it.

Another sign tells us there are no fireworks allowed in the park, no ATVs on the paths, but what is allowed are tent camping, fishing, hiking, boating, with amenities of restrooms and picnic tables.

At the entrance to the visitor center is a Welcome sign and I love the picture of an  eagle in flight.  We are welcomed to fish, hike or just relax and enjoy the view.  Herb and I definitely enjoy the views.

A sign on the opposite side of the sidewalk to the entrance shows the Enchanted Circle, tying together Taos on Hwy. 522, Questa, then Hwy 38 to Red River, Eagle Nest, Eagle Nest Lake, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park, and Angle Fire down Hwy 434.

The Enchanted Circle area of New Mexico is internationally famous for its natural beauty and unique blend of cultures.  There are art galleries and museums, as well as alpine tundra, pine Forrests and windswept grasslands.

Making my way back to Sweet Georgia Brown, I am lucky enough to see the wind die down enough for me to get a photo of the wood carved eagle on the porch of a residence.  Usually the wind is so strong that the American flag covers the face of the eagle.  The flag is beautiful, even if not flying straight out!
