Day 6 -- August 4, 2021
Herb thinks of his longtime friend, Skipper, with whom he had been on BMW motorcycle trips years ago and who now lives in Sante Fe. He calls him and learns that he is in a rehab center following surgery. We are invited to visit him and Cathy, and the facility provides a private nook where we can sit, but we must wear masks.
We spend an hour and a half just catching up, and are reluctant to leave, but we insist Skipper go back to his room to rest. It is so wonderful to see them again, and get news of their son, Jacob, and daughter, Meegan and husband Carlos. We learn that Meegan is a school teacher, and daughter Lauryn is in fifth grade. Gee, she was just a darling toddler the last time we saw her. Their son Nicholas is in kindergarten. We plan not to wait so long before visiting again. It had been ten years since we visited at Skipper and Cathy's home, but occasionally we would see them on South Padre Island when we lived in Port Isabel.
We drive back to Sweet Georgia Brown's home for a few days, Santa Fe Skies RV Park, and take an afternoon walk. I photograph all the novelties the park has placed about the grounds. We find a sign for a walking trail, "A clean trail is a happy trail," and plan to explore it tomorrow. Below are some antique trucks and machinery.
There are many paths to take for a walk, and I find one by an opening in the fence and partially hidden beyond a tree.
The RV park is made more beautiful with its tiered parking sites. Reminding ourselves the reason for the trip is for a cooler climate, we are pleased to see the clouds, a sprinkle, and the temperature drop from 84 degrees to 74. There is a nice breeze, so we enjoy our patio for Happy Hour. Photos below show how long the patio is.
Cocktail time shows the view behind us, which includes one of the antique trucks.
