Go North, Young Man! - Wednesday, May 15, 2013 - Day 5

We can see California from here!   It won't be long now, and we will turn north.  Because of the late snows in the mountains, Herb chooses to take the southern route on I-10 and go west almost to LA before pointing our nose toward Washington.

Fabulous -- exits to I-5 North.

Now on I-5 what do we see?  Traffic!  What do we feel?  A very bumpy highway.  Very rough.  Willie's Tug  is not happy; it's not just a light chop!

We start to see smoke in the distance and realize the wild fires are ahead.

When we stop for fuel, we get close enough to see the area where the  flames are.  There are burned over hillsides, black billowing smoke, and helicopter after helicopter flying overhead to drop water and/or chemicals.

Hopefully, they will get it under control before any houses are at risk.

Tonight we stay at Bakersfield RV Resort, and Wow! is it beautiful.  I could live here.

Find Willie's Tug....

Glad to be stopped for the night, Herb's comment is that he would rather be under the boat trailer turning wrenches, than drive on California's I-5 highway.

We soon take advantage of the hot tub for some relaxing and downtime, and meet a lovely family.  The guy offers Herb a taste of his Aberlour Single Malt Scotch, and Herb approves.  I taste and am tempted to take a drink from the hot tub to chase it!  I'll stick with my Wodka.

As we return to our camp site, their little child comes by to pet Jake, but when Jake looks at him, he is scared and runs away, leaving his soccer ball.  We return it to their site on Jake's evening walk.
