Our drive from the hotel takes us through the city of Las Vegas and we see the Aria, the hotel some friends have mentioned.
As we leave, we recall a turn we made many years ago -- in the Winter! -- to attend a motorcycle rally in Death Valley. Camping in a tent means sleeping on the ground, cooking over a fire ring. Coffee brewing in aluminum pots. All good.
This is what our GPS sees....
Near Goldfield NV a snow stick leans forward, being encouraged by the prevailing winds. We approach the Goldfield Summit at a height of 7484 ft.
A pleasant temperature follows us along I-95, and I get excited to see the first sign of snow on the top of Round Mountain in the distance.
Down at the bottom of this hill we come to the town of Austin. With tongue in cheek Herb says, "Make a note to tell Joe I drove four days from his house in Ft. Worth and just now came to the city of Austin, where he used to live. Texas is a big state."
Well, I'l be! We are in Trump Country! Here's a couple of signs from the 2016 Presidential election days.
The community of Austin may be small, but it is very picturesque. The park looks very inviting and I think it would be fun to have a picnic lunch here before arriving at our stop for the night in Winnemucca NV.
