The Amazing Strait of Juan de Fuca - 9/2/2012

We turn the nav lights on, and leave Victoria for the United States at 6A in order to catch the least winds across the Strait of Juan de Fuca.  We get a last look at the Government Building near the dock.

As David 'promised', we see a beautiful sky, ever changing colors, in the early morning.

Destiny and Zuma follow out, then turn north, as we head south.

Strong current hits our nose and we go through tide rips around Trial Island, but seas are mostly less than one foot.  A few rolls from wind on our beam before we cross into United States waters.

When we get about in the middle of the Strait, I send our SPOT locator, and am very happy about finally making the trip.  Every time last year that we wanted to go to Victoria, there were small craft warnings.

Herb listens to Traffic and learns that all ships are far from us in the Strait.  Nearing Admiralty Inlet, we see the container Granville at Point Wilson.

It gets a little more exciting in the more narrow waterway, as a cruise ship decides to come a bit close to us, and Herb alters course to increase the distance on the starboard, while watching the progress of ferries going both ways.

I see three dolphins, but they make two turns and disappear.  Brief thrill!

My next thrill is seeing Shilshole Marina with Mount Ranier in the background. I love Seattle!
