Log Boom in La Conner - 7/2/2012

In the few days that we spent in La Conner docked along side the Swinomish Channel, Herb and I muse that the water reminds us of the Intracoastal Waterway that we have traveled north up the coast from Port Isabel to Kema Boardwalk (Houston).

A big difference is that on the ICW we regularly saw tugboat after tugboat pushing their loads, sometime breasted up and thus leaving Willie's Tug looking for deep enough water while overtaking or meeting them.  We loved hearing them talk to each other, giving a heads up as to their position and status.  Some were just a single width, or strung out, maybe having more than one tow ahead.

Today as we leave, heading back to Anacortes, what do we see but a tugboat -- this time towing her load, a log boom.  There is quite a bit of logging activity in this area.  Now and then a log strays, so we are always on the lookout.

In the background is seen the Rainbow Bridge which spans the Swinomish Channel, and is one of the beautiful sights in La Conner.

We look forward to our next visit here.
