Plans.......... - Monday, June 25, 2012

Today we spend all day doing our chores and cleaning the boat.  I think we will never get through!

The highlight of the day is seeing Capt. Mac and Linda with their dogs walking along the dock.  They visit briefly, as they are just overnight in Cap Sante on their way to the Broughton Islands in Canada aboard Island Ranger.

We wish them a safe and fun vacation, and make plans for 'A Day on the Water with Capt. Mac' for me when they return.

And the learning will begin...........

  1. Great, Willie! That is an excellent idea! I should probably take a lesson sometime this summer also since there is so much to learn on our wonderful tugs.

I have a list of things I need to practice, including anchoring and using the dinghy, and I need to get busy with them. I think I may do more work on my list and then see if I might hire Mac after I have tried most of the things on the list, and learned some more about the chart plotter features. Then I will have a foundation and some terminology which will help a great deal.

Today while Bob was showing me how to change the oil and filter he asked me to check the engine hours and I did not know that the square instrument on the panel that says Yanmar shows all sorts of facts, including engine hours. I had discovered engine hours after spending lots of time exploring the chartplotter, and this other instrument is easier.

This morning I was dismayed to see how hard it is to open the oil filter cover, the cover where the new oil goes in, the cover for the dome area where grass had accumulated, etc. Every single thing was too hard to open, and took a wrench which we borrowed and even then Bob really had to work at it. Doing the actual tasks seemed quite simple. I don't want to be unable to check on items or examine things because the lids are too tight...not user friendly!

I am sure you have a great background after cruising these years. Lots goes over my head as I don't know all the terminology, but it is definitely getting easier as time goes by!

Hooray for us as we learn more and more about our boats :-)

  2. Anne, you are to be commended for all you are learning and for your sense of adventure. You are so wise to check the systems, for the safety of the equipment and yourself, and it should get easier as you progress.

    Thanks for sharing with me.
