Ganges -- to Anchor or Not to Anchor

With the winds predicted to increase in the afternoon, we leave Rosario early in the morning amidst a bit of rain and cloudy skies.

First out of the harbor is Moondance, then Willie's Tug, and thirdly is Destiny. Then we hear Destiny radioing on 68 that she is overtaking.

Willie's Tug drops back to stay clear of the wakes, and soon we encounter strong current and tide rips.

We see a marker for Shag Rock, and note on the chart that there is a Wildlife Refuge near shore with breeding area for sea birds and marine mammals.

In Harney Channel we pass Elwa Rock, so named for the ferry that hit it.

We pass through a narrow channel south of Crane Island, and turn between Jones Island and the western side of Orcas.

When we are in sight of Turn Point at the north end of Stuart Island, we see the freighter Savannah Express heading south.

We encounter a lot more tide rips as we enter Boundary Pass, the border between the United States and Canada.

Arriving at Bedwell Harbour on Pender Island, BC, we call in to Customs.

David and Maureen have the Nexus card, so they can call from the boat and clear.

Bruce goes up the ramp first and is soon cleared, then Herb comes back with a smile on his face, also.  (We recall the boarding and searching last year that took hours and delayed our trip.)

We now cross the channel to Ganges, where we are fortunate enough to get three side ties together.  No anchoring out tonight, as the winds will be fierce.

When we go into town for provisions, I see a pair of shoes draped over the electric lines of the city.  I wonder if they are the same ones I saw last year.

Ladies go to the kitchen store, and guys go to the liquor store.  Herb gives a ride to the purchases of Bruce and David, also.

Destiny hosts Happy Hour!

And the dining venue!

We elect Bruce 'Mayor of B Dock' for his welcoming of the crew on Connie Marie.
