Day 22 - Friday, August 5, 2022
Duval's RV Park, Wells ME
Morning begins at 5:15a, with a 69 degree temperature and a cloudy sky. We had a severe thunderstorm warnng last night, but it was mostly for the state of Vermont, which we have already come through. We are able to get our morning walk and take a photo of the Distillery sign. What we thought might be a snow stick is more likely a flagpole.
By 10:30a today we see a drizzle begin and wonder if that thunderstorm may be catching up with us. We decide to get up the steep hill from Copper Cannon Distillery to the highway before it becomes slippery.
We have a long way to go from the west side of New Hampshire to our destination in Wells, Maine, and hope that rain doesn't interfere with the trip. We stop for fuel at the TA truck stop and Herb washes the bug stains off the windshield.
The Piscataqua River bridge takes us over the Piscataqua River, a 12 mile-long river forming the boundary of the states of New Hampshire and Maine, from its origin at the confluence of the Salmon Falls River and Cocheco River.
The state of Maine welcomes us with free Souffle cups of Maine Wild Blueberries. They are smaller than the blueberries we grew at our farm many years ago in Avinger, Texas, but quite tasty.
One thing we notice right away in Maine is that people are very polite. Seeing a long line of traffic as we exit the Welcome Center, a nice driver motions us to go ahead of him with the motorhome. How pleasant.
Now I'm starting to get really excited as we begin to see signs directing us to touristy places we would like to visit. Beaches! I bet the scenery is great there.
The sky has been overcast all day, and now we get a real rain. Windshield wipers get a workout, and we get a preview of the traffic we will encounter in our vacation area.
When we arrive to Duval's RV Park, we see a sign directing us to come to a FULL STOP for check in. (Note their mailbox outside the fence is mounted on top of a crab trap).
Paula and Doug are super nice to us, and direct us to our Site #8. Doug assists Herb to back Sweet Georgia Brown into her site, because it requires a right angle turn and a little backing up and see-sawing.
Paula gives us a tag to hang on the rear view mirror, showing our departure date, and is proof of our paid week's stay. While Herb is getting the motorhome settled in, I stand by at the office, taking photos. I see Sherlock Holmes smoking his pipe, and standing behind some traps or pens that I don't recognize.
At the far end of the RV Park we see a yellow building, and learn that it is an Airbnb.
Sweet Georgia Brown is the fourth RV on the right side as you leave the office. We're going to love it here!!!

ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds great. We will leave Wells on Friday, the 19th, for reservations we have to the south. So we will miss it, as we begin our return to Silverlake. Thanks for reading the Blog, and especially for your comment.
DeleteI see you are heading south after your stay in Wells - will you get the chance to go north and spend some time in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, or have you done that before? Enjoy your time in Maine!
ReplyDeleteWe came to New England to visit relatives, but must head south tomorrow. We are in the southern part of Maine, but could not get to Bar Harbor and back in one day. However, the wind chime we have in our courtyard at home is the sound of the Bar Harbor bell buoy. That makes me happy. Yesterday we heard another Bar Harbor bell buoy chime on our morning walk in the neighborhood where we are camped.
