Day 14 - Thursday, July 28, 2022
Der Dutchman Restaurant, Bellville OH
Last Summer we took advantage of our membership in Harvest Hosts to visit various wineries and breweries along our route from Houston to our destination in northern New Mexico. Today we are excited to again visit one of the members, Der Dutchman Restaurant, as we pass though Bellville, Ohio, going northeast.
So we head out from Lake Haven Retreat at 11a, with an estimated arrival of 4:30p.
Benjamin Franklin said, "...Nothing is certain except death and taxes." But I would add to Mr. Franklin's quote that "Construction is certain." On our trip we travel over many miles of great highways, then come to a stretch of construction, some of which have only one lane available.
We also see some water in the construction area, and note they spray down the gravel and level it. Of course, some water could be puddles left by the stormy weather system that recently passed over us.
Thank you, construction workers, for creating new highways and repairing existing ones; we know how hot it is out there.
I love to photograph the state signs as we enter each next state. I don't use my iPhone camera while traveling, and the second reason is because with the Nikon I can zoom and 'rapid fire' to hopefully get a good shot. Sometimes I get lucky.
It seems we have the RV parking lot to ourselves and Herb is able to position the motorhome in a private area with a north view for StarLink. The background of the photo below shows a field of corn with its yellow tassels. This crop is widely grown in the areas we have been traveling.
The Harvest Host business gives the guest member free parking for from one to several days, with no hookups, and asks in return that they patronize their business. Sweet Georgia Brown's generator runs to provide the power we need. One other motorhome comes into the parking lot for dinner, but doesn't stay. Eighteen wheeler trucks park in the back and use their generators, also.
Der Dutchman advertises Amish Kitchen Cooking, and the restaurant also has a gift shop on the first and second floors.
Fortunate to be seated in a booth where there is a replica of an Amish horse drawn carriage -- or is it the real thing? -- I take a photo. It is actually another booth for dining.
