Far into the distance I see the entrance to the Columbia River, marked by the points of land -- Washington on the right and Oregon on the left.
Toni shows me their project, the garden in the front yard, which will contain a water feature.
They have planted the trees, shrubs and flowering plants; Toni can name each one (sometimes with the help of the tag on the young plants). The circular drive takes you along the perimeter and back toward the street, and Russ has built a wooden screen for seclusion.
We sit in lawn chairs in the warming sun to contemplate the beauty of nature.
