With miles and miles to go, we wake early and have our breakfast before leaving Iraan TX at 8A. The brilliant yellow wild flowers near Ft. Stockton look much the same as we see in East Texas, and the flat land gives way to jagged rock and hills as we roll along.
Our mapping program shows where the locations of Rest Areas, which are perfect stopping places for lunch and safety breaks. I love the Southwest art with the buffalo, birds and animal skulls -- all the things found in the desert.

The mosaic of fluffy white and darker heavy clouds delights us, and we wonder if there is rain ahead.
By late afternoon we find Rio Salado San Dunes Rest Area near San Acacia NM and call it home for the night.
As the sun begins to set, the dancing ominous clouds create spectacular scenes, and we quickly grab cameras to capture the magic.
Oh, I'll get just one more photo. |
